HOW IT WORKS?

1. Event Format

2-player team format, 1 double match + 4 single matches.

● Matches between two teams will be played in the following order, and each team has the freedom to choose A or B and X or Y.

A vs. X

B vs. Y

Double: A & B vs. X & Y

A vs. Y

B vs. X

● USATT league rating on the sign-up deadline will be used in rating calculation. The total rating of a team cannot be over 3400. Club rating will be used if you don’t have USATT league rating. Please see the Director to get an estimated rating if you don’t have either.

● All matches are 11-point games, best 3 out of 5 games. A handicap system is adopted and can be applied if the lower rating team chooses to do so, thus players of widely different skills can play an "even" match.

The handicap system: For each 11-point game, the higher rating side gives away 1 point for every 70 rating points delta to the lower rating side till the maximum of 7 given-away-point has reached. For example, if two players' rating gap is 230, then the higher rating player will give away 3 points for each game, so the game starts as 3:0 or 0:3. For double matches, the two players’ averaging rating is used to calculate the delta between two teams' ratings. The lower rating player serves first then alternates serving the same way as regular games.

2. The playing schedule for each team will be published before the first week of the season. In general, each team will play against 1-2 teams every week, and up to 10 teams total for the season, depending on how many teams sign up.

3. The winner of the team match is the team that wins 3 matches. As soon as one team has won 3 matches, the team match is completed. If it is the last team match of the day and both sides agree, two teams can continue to finish the remaining matches as a friendly competition.

● If a player is unable to play because of illness, injury, or absence, his/her matches will be defaulted when they are due to be played.

● If a team is not present to play at the scheduled starting time, matches will be defaulted as follows: After 15 minutes, the first match; after an additional 15 minutes, the second match; after an additional 15 minutes, the third match.

4. Absence and substitutes. The team shall submit a request for absence or substitution and get an approval from the director 24 hours before the match starting time.

● The substitute’s rating shall NOT be higher than the player to be substituted. The given-away-point will not be changed due to the substitution.

● A substitute can play for different teams but cannot be on different teams at the same week.

● For a team absence, both affected teams shall negotiate a common good time to make up the missing game. All make-up games must be completed and reported before the last week of the season. Playing games earlier than the schedule is allowed.

● The season has a dedicated week for teams playing makeup or in-advance games.

This is NOT an official USATT event, however, all USATT rules shall be enforced, including legal services, coaching, breaks in-between points and sets, etc.

All league committee decisions are final.

PRIZES AND POINTS SYSTEM

Based on the win, lose, or default your team finishes each week against other teams, your team will be awarded league points based on the following system. At the end of season, each team’s points earned every week will be totaled to a final score, and two teams with top two highest scores will be awarded. A 21-point Brazilian team format competition will be the tie-braker should teams earn the same final score. The league committee will also dispute ties between league finishers if needed.

● Winning team: 2 points

● Losing team: 1 point

● Default: -1 point
